It can seem like the progression of artistic movements is rational, or even inevitable, but it is a good reminder that they are more often contingent and spread by almost pure chance. Remembering this heightens our agency to determine our own fate collectively and individually. The future of Western Civilization is in our hands. Something so innocuous as architecture expresses this clearly. Very good essay.

The Bauhaus were much better at cradles than buildings I think.

Le Corbusier’s homeware range has too much of a dentistry vibe for me though…
