A brief note for Thanksgiving 2023

Dear Readers,

This week is both Thanksgiving and my birthday — so to celebrate, I’m taking this Monday off from publishing a visual essay. Subscribers will get the next piece delivered to their inboxes in a week! In the photo above, you get a sneak peak of some drawings I’ve made for upcoming visual essays.

And in the spirit of this Thanksgiving holiday, I want to thank everyone who has subscribed to Fashionably Late Takes for supporting my new venture. Hopefully those of you who enjoyed the artwork I produced during my mad scientist days also appreciate this new chapter in my creative output. I made this pivot because I relish how writing helps me think clearly, and as the memoirist Anaïs Nin put it, "We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.” But to also have readers makes writing so much more rewarding than shouting into the void — so again, thank you.

Because it is also my birthday this week, I hope it is not too bold of me to pair my gratitude with a request: If you have been enjoying Fashionably Late Takes, will you take a moment to share your favorite essay with a friend and encourage them to subscribe?
